Budgerigars’ original colors are green and yellow, but in captivity they have been bred with other colors like blue, white, yellow, grey. Budgie is the third most popular pet in the world, after the domesticated dog and cat. The origins of budgerigar’s name is not clear, but the species was first recorded in 1805.
In the breeding season, half of the adult male bird develops a bright blue-black coloring. When not in breeding, males are brown. Females have brown feathers all year round.
